America and her Military

Since the beginning, man has needed to fight to survive, he was designed as a Warrior in this way.  Not until this past century, and especially since WWII have we found this, “Fight to Survive” dissipating greatly.  Today, for many it has disappeared all together, and yet the Warrior still remains.  Society’s ability to grow out of this fight has also demonstrated that this fight manifests itself into other areas causing conflicts, addictions, and all forms of “Battles” going on within.  Divorces, as well as family and personal struggles have increased greatly.  For years sexual promiscuity has led to a decline in the morality of this nation to the level that some believe that sodomy, rape, and black mail is only abuse and not torture in the prisons in Iraq.  This is greatly disturbing and demonstrates the desensitization of our nations morals and values within our country today.

“What we all need to ask is who is it we are fighting, and why?”

The military is one of the fastest response systems in the world, and this can be used to mobilize this force into a new force to be reckoned with.  Today we have proven that our military can destroy anything and everything with ease, so now I challenge America to bring her military into the 21st century with a new role.

This is the challenge, America should diversify her military with the focus maintained upon security and protection of her nation and her people, but bring about a secondary role as Warriors engaging in battles with rising floodwaters in Malaysia, an earthquake in Central America, or fortifying residents prior to a hurricane.  I sometimes question if the Army Corps of Engineers were dispatched to Grand Forks, North Dakota, along with 10,000 Marines, could they have saved the town?  I trust the abilities of the Army Corps of Engineers and a Marine with a shovel.  How much land could have been saved if the military manpower located in California was sent in to help fight the fires last year in California?  What if they had weapons, training and the abilities to fight such a fire?

I am in no way suggesting that the Military remove any form or ability of free enterprise operating within her nation or another's, but ONLY in a state of emergency and/or preventative emergency.  When manpower is not adequate to meet the needs of the people, the Military should be mobilized for assistance to fight whatever disaster is, has, or might take place, and as soon as the threat is gone they return to their base immediately allowing free enterprise to take over.  I am speaking only under the conditions of National Emergency, National Preventative Emergency, or International Emergency.  National Preventative Emergency is raising floodwaters where a state of emergency does not exist yet, but is probable, like Grand Forks where more manpower would have saved the town.

Additionally, we need to look at our reservists and maintain a computer database with their abilities and locations.  The reservist today is making up a great deal of our Military manpower, and we should optimize their abilities to serve.  For example: a man who is a truck driver in the reserves who is also a firefighter in his private life would be an ideal individual to have been called up during the California fires to help preserve life and property.

There is a set budget amount put aside for our military every year, and when we alter this soon we find the contractors laying off people, and individuals are soon affected and unemployment hits.  What I am suggesting is that America continues with her budget but seek other forms of “Weapons” to fight with.  More Bull Dozers or earthmovers, more fire fighting planes, more weapons to help save lives and offset the weapons used to destroy them.

Our military is designed around the concept of serving country, defending its people, and destroying its enemy.  What I ask is to add one thing to this…

TO SAVE!
