Deuteronomy 16
20 Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess
the land the LORD your God is giving you.
God informs us that Israel can live at peace with her neighbors and inherit the land that the Lord has promised them if they follow Justice and Justice alone, and this can guide America as well.
Democracy did nothing to free the Black man early in America when it was founded, nor did it help him after the Civil War, but when Justice intervened then the Black man truly became free during the 50's and 60's. Today it is better than ever in the history of our nation regarding the racial prejudice in America's Courts, yet, more work is still needed. As long as there are humans involved, there is potential for mistakes. When the Rodney King verdict came down in California, the injustices of such a verdict resulted in wide spread chaos, and this is what injustices can manifest itself into, chaos.
The Federal Government intervened and charged the Police, and soon calm returned but not until there was a large scale level of destruction, deaths and injuries. The lesson America learned that day is that those who have power and control over another MUST use restraint, and when Justice becomes injustice, chaos follows. When the one in power looses restraint, it becomes physical oppression.
The difficulty regarding Israel and Palestine is that they will need to get a kind of legal “Divorce” from one another, yet still live in harmony under the same roof. This is going to be a difficult task but not impossible as one may see as they continue to read. The first step MUST begin with letting go of the past and looking forward. Any looking or finger pointing to the past will only promote blaming one another, and this will continue the cycle of animosity between all the people of Israel/Palestine. This will lead to the continual division among the people and oppose Gods desire for love and unity. Both sides need to be reminded as to what happened to Lot's wife when she looked back, and became a pillar of salt.
The other issue that needs to be addressed is a vision of a future that will encourage both sides to move forward to achieve a common goal. If all sides see a future of prosperity, security and peace, then their focus and dialogue with each other and the words within everyone’s mind can be transformed from the current hate, to thoughts of family, work and typical daily problems. People will work better when there is some hope and incentive for them to focus upon and look forward to.
In order to facilitate this process, it will be necessary to establish deadlines and timetables. Without this, peace will likely be compromised.
