Understanding one another

As I reflect now upon the knowledge and life changing experiences these past several years, I see that the major difference among people throughout the entire world is different interpretations and definitions of the words that we use.  This becomes a very passionate subject when religion enters in.  To demonstrate what I mean, let me offer this as an example.

If a child grows up and is taught to believe that night is day and day is night, they will grow up and go out into the world with this as their understanding.  Knowing this as the only definition to describe "day" and "night," soon they will encounter others who will tell them they are wrong...but are they?

By their own personal definitions they are both correct, but different, and neither are wrong.  If either is wrong, it is the one who tells the other they are wrong.  This is because they never took the time to understand the other.  In order to truly love another we must first be patient and try to understand another’s definition and understanding of the words that they use.  If we do not respect and try to understand the other, all that will result is conflict.  Knowing the passion that is in the hearts of people regarding God and Religion, before we can ever open lines of communication with another, it is vital that we must first understand the definitions of the words they use along with their personal understanding of them.  By doing this we can become more understanding and loving, and through this willingness to understand we soon come to a level of respect for one another.  When we do this we quickly become aware of how we are all different, and yet, how we are all the same.
