The security of Israel is one of the most important issues on the table for everyone within Israel and Palestine, yet equally important is the need for additional fresh water. After touring the land and reflecting upon mans accomplishments of the past like the Suez Canal, the Panama Canal, and the most recent accomplishment of connecting England to France under the Sea, this proposal I bring forth I believe can and will work. I believe that the following can be accomplished through the joint efforts of Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, America, Europe and many other Arab Countries.
Many years ago the Mediterranean was connected to the Red Sea and remained that way for many years after the flood. When the floodwaters dried up, what remained was the Dead Sea, which became a concentrated body of Salt Water. As a result, this has become the lowest place on earth where anyone can stand. The Jordan River, which flows from the Sea of Galilee into the Dead Sea barely maintains the needs of the people. Today, because of the greater population and the amount of irrigation in the north, the people of Jerusalem and Jericho now know the Jordan River as the "Jordan Creek." Fresh water supplies have dwindled and as a result there is soon to be a greater problem approaching Israel in the near future. Additionally, without this water mass between Israel and Jordan, there is a greater security risk of terrorist’s crossing over from Jordan into Israel. For this reason the following should be pursued by Israel in cooperation with neighboring Arab Countries, America and Europe. That is to take massive amounts of water from the Mediterranean Sea and converting it to a fresh water supply, which will be used to flood the Jordan Valley.
an artists imagination of a new Israel
The water ways feeding southern Israel can all be preplanned and allow for abundant land for settlements After speaking with Corey Taylor of Tempest Environmental Systems Inc. in Durham, North Carolina, I was informed that this process, although a large undertaking, could be easily accomplished today.
By using the drill that was used to connect England to France under the sea, and the same one that is being used currently to install a subway system here in Minnesota, a shaft could be drilled in the foothills of Haifa and come out at the dead sea. Because this is downhill, this shaft will only need to be primed, the water will siphon itself after that point.
At Haifa, the water could be taken out of the Mediterranean Sea and desalinized and the gravity would allow the water to flow down into the Jordan Valley. A series of Dams using land fill and the current wall that is being used to enclose the West Bank today could be built holding back mass quantities of water. This would be filled during the winter and then drained from one reservoir to another through the summer much in the same way that they facilitate the dams and power stations in Tennessee. These dams would control the water and be used as power stations as well used for Israel/Palestine's power and future settlements in southern Israel.
A land filled divide would be constructed at the Dead Sea preserving this natural wonder. Another pumping station could be implemented at this point to route the water on the Israeli side of the border and send fresh water down to the south end of the Dead Sea. Dam and power stations could once again be set up to provide fresh water and power to the now barren land of southern Israel all the way to Eilot at its southern tip. The agriculture and prosperity of this land would make southern Israel into a land where new Israeli settlements could truly prosper.
Except for the land directly around the Dams, all land up to the new river banks of the Jordan River could be turned over to Jordan, and Jordan as well could prosper from this development utilizing this new fresh water supply. This River would put a natural divide between Israel and Jordan giving the people of a sense of comfort on both sides.
By flooding the Jordan Valley to a good size river, the needs for fresh water will no longer be an issue at the negotiation table. Also, the amount of added security that this mass of water would supply for Israel would be very beneficial for 2 reasons. First, the water would act as a great barrier between countries making Israel almost an Island on its own. Israel would be in full control of all people traveling into Israel through limiting the accessibility. Secondly, the security forces protecting the West Bank from Jordan would be greatly reduced, and less Israeli soldiers in the West Bank would relieve much stress and anxiety among all the people.
The dams and pumping stations would need to be equipped with a proper defense system to protect them from possible aircraft or missile attacks. Also, their construction needs to take into account the highest possible strength to endure possible attacks. Israel, with the collaboration of America can implement the most recent technology to defend these points from both sides of the dams. This would be made possible through negotiations with Jordan and America to ensure the highest possible security for these areas.
