"I believe it is an established maxim in morals that he who makes an assertion without knowing whether it is true or false, is guilty of falsehood; and the accidental truth of the assertion, does not justify or excuse him."
Abraham Lincoln
--From the August 11, 1846 Letter to Allen N. FordLet's apply this statement to the fact that our current administration did tell us that there was 100% certainty that there were WMDs within Iraq, and this was the justification of this war. "First Strike" policy was adopted which meant that the first rule of war (for defensive purposes only) made invading Iraq justifiable with Sadaam in possession of such weapons. If there was a large supply of WMD's, and knowing Sadaam's willingness to invade another, there would have been justification by reflecting upon the world's complacency with Germany after WWII. But soon there after this very same administration demonstrated to the world that they had no knowledge of any WMD's by coming up empty handed. It is common knowledge at least among the Arab population that Sadaam was too broke to have WMD's any longer, and the sanctions had made it difficult to even feed his own soldiers. Also it was common knowledge among the Arab communities of the hatred between Sadaam and the Saudis, including a deep hate for Osama. It is difficult to believe one could be 100% certain of Iraq possessing WMD's with 0% knowledge of any locations. At the time we must all remember that the majority of America supported this War at the time, and I was one of the few arguing against it. There is no one person to blame as much as we, the people, are to blame.
Some people now justify this War by promoting that an evil man has been removed from power, and no one disagrees with his brutality, yet there are many in power more evil than he. There is NO "Justification," NO "Excuse," for the "Falsehoods" that professionals perpetrated, intelligence agencies supported and this administration has placed upon her people and the world, and accountability for this is necessary for we, America, have violated the first rule of war. It is based upon this reason that America today has divided herself from the world's opinion and within herself. Even today if they find any WMD's, it does not take away from the fact that according to Lincoln's statement, the current administration is guilty of Falsehood to its own people and the world. In the face of this, not one official has been forced to step down and all remain in their positions of authority.
The Arabs question today, as well as myself, if America is truly seeking Peace and liberation of Iraq, why does she continue to fight and refuse to offer up this power and control and continue to turn there back and do nothing for the Palestinians who are their brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, grandchildren and friends?
When I returned from Palestine back in 2000 I wrote,
“Never underestimate the son's desire to avenge the father's short comings.”
When I wrote this I was speaking of a son seeing his father be put to the ground at gunpoint, and the vengeance this boy would feel in his heart to the one doing this to his father. I never heard of George Bush at the time I wrote of this, but knowing that Sadaam had a "Hit" put out on Bush Sr., this desire and its influence must never be underestimated.
